The beginning…

Rosalind Williams was born in New Orleans and raised in San Francisco. She folllowed her interest in painting at San Francisco College for Women (now University of San Francisco), the University of Callifornia (Berkeley) and related workshops at the San Francisco Art Institute.

She lived and worked in Paris at the Odanne Studio doing hand-painted textile design.

As a surface designer she particpated as an exhibitor in numerous trade fairs in France (Paris and Lille), in Spain (Madrid and Barcelona) and in the United States (New York).

Commercially, her designs have been included in collections of the firms Loewe ( Spain and Italy) and Bianchini-Ferier (France),

As a member of the Fomento d’Arts Decoratifs, her artwork has been viewed in exhibition at the Fundaciò Joan Miró in Barcelona, and also other venues in Spain (Casa Americana of the U.S. Embassy) La Granja Centro Cultural, Segovia and the United States (Bomarzo Studio, San Francisco and Fiberworks, Berkeley).

Dovetailing her textile and painting experiences, her work reflects a passion for flowers, based on floral motifs.

Her palette unifies a subtle use of color and shape as exemplified in works on paper in gouache, canvases in acrylics and hand-painted surface-design on found and antique objects.

As a teacher, she founded and taught in the studio art program at the American School of Madrid.

She lives and works in Chinchón, Madrid.
